WHY HELP THIS FILM?
1 million people have aphasia in the U.S, but very few people have ever heard of it. This is where this film comes into picture, dealing with a topic that seriously matters to society: if we take into account the relatives and friends of those who have aphasia, more than 20 million people in this country are affected by it.
Also, there are no major documentaries about aphasia, and yet there is an urgent need of talking about it because lack of media coverage is one of the main reasons for the shortage of funding and research. Indeed, we strongly believe that a documentary is nowadays the perfect medium to raise this issue and to help society understand it from a human point of view.
By helping us finish this film, you are contributing to bring light to the work of many organizations, institutions, universities, advocates, policy makers, and all kinds of people who have aphasia and want to be heard by society.
WHAT DO WE NEED YOUR HELP FOR?
The Speechless team has worked for more than two years in the making of this film. We have been able to fund this thanks to our personal funds, our pro bono work, the help of La Caixa Foundation Fellowship (Spain), and the collaboration of hundreds of colleagues. We have made an ideal film for the U.S. and the international market, a documentary with a strong potential social impact, but in order for us to distribute it, we need funding for post production, archival and music licensing, and most importantly, audience outreach.
Here is a graphic budget of the funds needed to finish the film. Below you can find the details of each part of this budget.
